“Carlo Scarpa and the Construction of In-Between Space:
Water as a Threshold Element in Querini Stampalia”
This is my architectural master thesis, focusing on water as a key design element in the work of Carlo Scarpa. Using Querini Stampalia Foundation in Venice as a case study, I explore how water is not just present, but actively shaping the architecture — especially in moments of transition such as thresholds and entrances.
The project investigates how Scarpa uses water to guide movement, define spatial sequences and connect interior and exterior spaces. Through analytical and interpretative drawings, I examine the entrance area of Querini Stampalia in detail, looking at materiality, choreography and Scarpa’s dialogue with the site. It is a research-based thesis where drawing becomes a tool for architectural understanding.
